An armed attacker charged past a security station at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where journalists and a Trump entourage were assembled. He didn’t get into the ballroom, but he exchanged fire with police, and was taken into custody without evident serious injury. One officer was struck by a round, but a vest protected him. The shooter is a 31-year-old tutor from Torrance, Calif., Cole Tomas Allen.
